MARCH 14, 2020 ROCK ROLL & RUN EVENT CANCELLED
... BUT YOU CAN STILL RAISE MONEY FOR YOUR SCHOOL
March 10, 2020
Dear Parents, Students, Sponsors and Community Members,
As a Foundation that supports local schools, we take great pride in hosting our annual Rock Roll & Run and raising money for education. However, after close consultation with our partner and event host, Loyola Marymount University, we regret to inform you that this year's event scheduled for Saturday, March 14 has been cancelled.
Despite our best efforts to continue this event for our community and the schools that depend on these donations, we could no longer in good faith hold the Rock Roll & Run with the mounting list of recommendations from public health officials. This decision was impacted significantly by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and L.A. County Department of Public Health declaring a public health emergency regarding COVID-19 and their recommendation to “modify, postpone, or cancel large conferences or events." Further, given the declared public health emergency, we have increasing concerns that the event will not be allowed to take place at the venue.
The health and safety of our community, our students, attendees, volunteers and sponsors is always our number one priority, and we were faced with too many obstacles to overcome, making cancellation unavoidable.
We do not take this decision lightly. Having spent months fundraising, organizing and working with local schools, parents and administrators, it is an understatement to say we are genuinely upset and disappointed to not be able to host the Rock Roll & Run.
At this time, it is unclear how the cancellation of the Rock Roll & Run will ultimately impact the total expected donations to schools. We are hopeful that the majority of runners will continue to pledge their donation to their requested school. Virtual runners will also be kept open, so that schools can continue to raise money for their school. For those that would like a refund, however, we will be providing details on how to obtain one. We are also working closely with our sponsors to determine how the cancellation may impact their donations to our Foundation, which we use for grants.
The Foundation thanks you for your understanding and patience at this time. We are working with our partners to access the feasibility of a virtual event to rally our education community. You may also refer to our website for any new information at laxcoastaledfoundation.org or facebook.com/LAXCoastalEdFoundation. The Foundation remains committed to positively
impacting our local education community and look forward to working with you soon to strengthen our schools.
