About Kentwood Elementary: Welcome to Kentwood Elementary School; a true community school in the heart of Westchester. While Kentwood is a small community school, we are a model school within LAUSD. We have been recognized as a California Distinguished School twice since 2010 and also honored as having a highly-rated arts program in 2016 based on LAUSD’s Arts Equity Index data. A key factor to Kentwood’s success lies in our adaptation of different innovative programs and having the best teachers and staff on our campus. All of our teachers are fully credentialed and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) highly qualified. Their valued experience and proven teaching methods have earned numerous awards. Some of our special programs and services include: Dance, Theater, Computer Lab, Science Lab, Yoga, and Wonder of Reading Library. We are on the cutting edge of education technology and have iPads in every classroom K-5. Plus, we just started a new after-school robotics program for our GATE students. The teachers, staff, Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and other parent volunteers have worked hard to ensure the continuity of our special programs and various fundraisers e.g., Family Fun Day, Prom, Rock Roll and Run for Education, and our colorful yearbook. Ongoing and traditional activities include: Back to School Picnic, Citizen of the Month, GATE Program, Field Trips, and Koala Tours. After-school programs are available such as STAR, Got Game, College Bound for Kids, Chess Tutors. Kentwood has a rich history of collaboration with higher learning institutions such as our partnerships with Loyola Marymount University, Antioch University, and OTIS College. We continue our active community involvement with the YMCA, the Playa Vista Education Trust, and the LAX Chamber of Commerce.
